The Sacred Microphone Part #2
Enjoy!
“Aren’t you going to tell us what the ingredients are?” Seamus asked, expecting a good answer.
“Of course not,” Snape said, carrying his jar of elixir to his desk, lost in his own thoughts.
“This is why I don’t like Potions class,” said Annalise.
Just then, the dungeons door burst open. Ron stood in the hall, covered in leaves and branches, his mouth hanging open.
Hermione realized he was staring at Malfoy and laughed at Ron’s reaction. Malfoy stared at Ron furiously, still belching at the top of his lungs.
Ron sat next to Hermione. “This is officially the best Potions lesson we’ve had this term.”
Hermione, Seamus, and Annalise took turns explaining what happened.
“Alright,” Ron said after they had finished their story. “As much as I’d like to stay and help, Harry reminded me about Quidditch practice this morning. Good luck!” Ron said, running out the door.
“Okay, Hermione,” Seamus said. “Where have you read about the Sacred Microphone?”
“Er… it was in a book…”
“Of course it was in a book— What book?” Malfoy screamed.
“It was called Outlandish Items Originating From the Wizarding World by… Emile Goldenhedge,” Hermione said, finally recalling the long title.
“Great. Now we look for it,” said Annalise, already scanning the bookshelves in the back of the room, dodging Malfoy’s kicks and swings.
“Oh, I think I found it!” Seamus said, bringing everyone’s hopes up. “Never mind. This is Outlandish Draughts Discovered.”
“That’s a good book,” Hermione pointed out. Then it hit her. “Hold on… we’re looking for a book that’s related to wizarding world items and commodities. We’re not looking for anything related to potions!”
“So we shouldn’t be looking in a potions classroom,” Annalise said, slapping her forehead. “Of course.”
“We’ll just be a moment, Professor Snape!” Seamus called before running out the dungeons door, just in time to hear Malfoy scream, “Don’t leave me in here!”
Annalise answered, “Do you want to be out in the public right now?”
“That shut him up,” Seamus said, grinning.
They ran into the library, searching everywhere but the Restricted Section. Finally, Seamus found the section.
“Wizarding World Items and Commodities!” He read the shelf label out loud.
The trio scanned the shelves until Annalise said, “Outlandish Items Originating From the Wizarding World by Emile Goldenbridge!”
“Oh… I got the name wrong,” Hermione said, shrugging.
They checked out the book and ran back into the dungeons. Malfoy was singing another children’s song. Hermione figured he finished his old one.
“The wheels on the bus go ‘round and ‘round,
‘Round and ‘round,
‘Round and ‘round.
The wheels on the bus go ‘round and ‘round…
All day long.”
“What type of song is this?” Malfoy asked in between lyrics. Being raised by a wizard and witch, he was completely clueless about Muggle songs.
Annalise opened the book and scanned the pages. “Here! Page 102. The Sacred Microphone first belonged to Ohio Billwag, a musician from the nineteenth century. It was used to impress bourgeois, plebeians, and general public. Though nobody knows where the Sacred Microphone originated from, it is rumored that Stoddard Withers himself created the Sacred Microphone to sing and attract Winged horses.”
“Forget about the history!” Malfoy ordered. “Look at the antidote! And who the heck was Stoddard Withers?”
“According to the book, he was a Magizoologist who bred Winged horses,” Hermione said, scanning the pages over Annalise’s shoulder.
“Annalise, there’s the antidote!”
That's all I have so far, but I'll be writing more soon!
